IDYLLWILD LIBRARY Presidents Book Club ~ Franklin Pierce

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Event Details

Join us every other month as we make our way through the biographies of the U.S. presidents. We are now reading about the 14th president, Franklin Pierce.  "Franklin Pierce became President at a time of apparent tranquility. The United States, by virtue of the Compromise of 1850, seemed to have weathered its sectional storm. By pursuing the recommendations of southern advisers, Pierce–a New Englander–hoped to prevent still another outbreak of that storm. But his policies, far from preserving calm, hastened the disruption of the Union." (

We have a variety of books at the front desk to choose from, or you may go online to various sources, or you may watch a documentary. There are no rules. The purpose is to become acquainted with our rich and fascinating history and the lives of our leaders. All are welcome.
