"Plate Tectonics: the wondrous journey of scientific discovery leading to the modern theory of the earth". Joe Migliori, a volunteer naturalist who has worked with The Living Desert, Mt. San Jacinto State Park, Whitewater Preserve, Anza-Borrego Desert and more, will share his passion for geology. It was Alfred Wegener, a German scientist who really got the ball rolling with his 1915 book, "The Origin of Continents and Oceans, Theory of Continental Drift." In 1965, the Royal Society of London held a symposium to discuss these concepts, vindicating Alfred Wegener's theory. This presentation by Mr. Migliori will employ many graphics and animations visually enriching the story of how Plate Tectonics works and discussing the ever-present danger of earthquakes in our region. Sponsored by the Friends of the Idyllwild Library. Refreshments served.
